Today we have the first storm of the summer. The rain is hammering down on the roof and the downpipes are full.

I’m happy.

We’ve had less than 10mm of rain in November (while poor souls in southern states are being flooded)

So, after having planted seeds a few days back, I’m hoping this downpour will wet the soil deeply without washing everything away. It’s also going to fill the very low tanks too. That also makes any gardener happy doesn’t it?

So what has just gone into the soil and into seed trays? …

I’m planting successive crops of Sweet corn, Trombocino zucchini, Climbing and bush beans, New Guinea beans and Snake beans,

Cos and butter lettuce do better in hot weather up in the subtropics that=n Great Lakes and Icebergs, so lots of seed is now sown in situ under shade cloth.

Our summer greens also include Asian greens eg Pak choy and Tatsoi, (it’s too hot for wombok in our garden as it doesn’t form a head in summer), Kai lan which is like a broccolini, and Surinam Spinach which don’t mind the heat one bit.

There are also button squash, red and golden watermelons,  and chillis that I’ve grown from seed.

The tomatoes that went in a few months back, have been staked and are under fruit fly netting now. And the eggplants have started their long season of generosity.

It should be a Christmas feast from the garden here!

In the edible flower realm, cosmos, sunflowers, daylily plants, marigolds, phlox, dianthus, zinnias from seed and seedlings, Blue Butterfly Vine, dahlia tubers and seedlings are still being planted. I keep seeing little spaces for more…

They go in between the vegies, around the labyrinth, into pots and into the herb parterre. No spot is spared if i have seeds or seedlings to use up.
